We hope your summer has gone well! As we look at school beginning and our schedules filling up with fall activities, we hope you are able to reflect on some wonderful family time and feel some rejuvenation. Your health and well-being are important to those around you as we continue to work together to share the mission of Uplift Mid-MO creating unity in the body of Christ to support local missions and outreach in Mexico, MO and the surrounding area by providing valuable resources to those in need and effectively leading the lost to Jesus Christ. Reviewing our mission is an important reminder as we sometimes feel like we are struggling through our day-to-day lives – Jesus Christ loves us so much that He died on the cross and forgave ALL of our sins - we are so blessed to be able to serve Him and this world around us! I also enjoy biking, running, drawing/painting, and photography. I have been a Christian since I was 8. I went to church with friends or rode the church bus until I could drive myself. I love Jesus and the grace and hope that comes from Him and His word. I am now a member of Genesis Church in Mexico and play bass guitar on the worship team. I have been a music teacher for 27 years, the last 15 at North Callaway. I have taught a lot of things, including K-1 art and P.E. Currently I teach K-5 music at Williamsburg Elementary and I love it! I am excited to join Uplift and look forward to working in this ministry. Sherry can be reached via email at [email protected]. What's Ahead for Uplift Mid-MOJust a reminder – To celebrate our 5th Anniversary, Uplift will be hosting a “Month of Giving” during the month of November. This digital event is in lieu of our annual 5K this year and our goal is to raise $20,000 to support our mission. If you would like to have Uplift visit your church to speak to your congregation, please email Kate at [email protected]. All church partners will receive a hand-delivered media kit in early October. This packet will include a number of things including a few short videos saved to a jump drive that are designed to help educate your congregations about Uplift – these can be shared each week in November (in church and/or on social), giving envelopes and flyers about our fundraiser and organization. This information can be shared with your congregation or with any other groups or businesses you think might have interest in supporting our mission. Our goal is to raise $20,000 for Uplift with this fundraiser. A huge shoutout to all the pastors and agency partners who have done interviews! We can’t thank you enough! Uplift Mid-MO Activity Report for the 2nd quarter of 2024:Clients referred – 47 Intakes – 11
Financial Assistance Offered - $2,994.55 for 13 various services including housing, utilities, fuel, counseling fee, phone, and other needs. Our contributions of assistance continue to be higher as the cost of needs has increased. And, as you can see, not every referral becomes an open case - there are many reasons for this, including lack of contact information, resource information only provided, and duplicate submissions, but often due to the evaluation process for each referral. Uplift strives to be a “gap ministry” (assisting when the criteria of other agencies can’t be met), we evaluate the ability of the assistance Uplift offers to assist in the sustainability of the individual’s independence, and we are faith-based and faith supported by our church partners. Many of our referred clients are connected with the proper community resources that fall outside of Uplift, so if you’re in doubt of whether or not to send someone our way, please send them! We always offer some value to every single referral. We Still Need Your Help Filling Board Vacancies and Volunteer Positions! We still have several spots available on our Board of Directors. We are interested in keeping a diverse group from multiple churches, so we are asking our church partners to nominate 1 – 3 individuals from their church who might be a good fit for us. Our board meets quarterly, and we would love to have someone serve on the board who has interest in volunteering as well. Overall, this is a low time commitment, but it can be as much as you are able to do. Please be sure to talk to nominees before sending their name in as a nomination. Email [email protected] with any nominations! Thank you!

Living paycheck to paycheck is stressful. Every month, you worry about making ends meet, and saving money seems impossible. But with some simple habits, you can break this cycle and build a more secure future. This article will show you how to start saving and stop living paycheck to paycheck. Key Takeaways
Treat Savings Like a Monthly BillThe secret to getting away from a paycheck-to-paycheck lifestyle and moving toward regular saving is to treat it like a monthly expense. Instead of making saving an afterthought, you include it as a line item on your budget just like any other bill you have to pay. This can help with ingraining the savings habit if you’re committing to paying your savings “bill” each month. Set a Fixed AmountFirst, decide on a fixed amount to save each month. It doesn't have to be a huge sum. Even starting small can make a big difference over time. The key is consistency. Commit to starting small with monthly savings. Even a little savings can be a big relief in the event of smaller unexpected expenses such as repairing your cell phone or paying for minor car repairs. Include It in Your BudgetNext, make sure to include this fixed amount in your budget. Treat it just like any other bill you have to pay. This way, you won't be tempted to skip it. Think of it as paying your future self. Stick to the PlanFinally, stick to the plan. It might be tempting to dip into your savings for non-emergencies, but resist the urge. Remember, the goal is to build a habit and create a safety net for yourself.  By treating savings like a bill, we can make sure we're always putting something aside for the future. It might be tough at first, but with time, it will become second nature. Automate Your SavingsAutomating our savings is one of the smartest moves we can make to get away from living paycheck to paycheck. It takes the guesswork out of saving and ensures we consistently put money aside for our future. Set Up Automatic TransfersThe first step is to set up automatic transfers from our checking account to our savings account. By doing this, we make saving a priority and treat it like any other monthly bill. This way, we won't be tempted to spend the money earmarked for savings. Use Savings AppsThere are plenty of savings apps out there that can help us save without even thinking about it. These apps can round up our purchases to the nearest dollar and transfer the difference to our savings. It's a simple way to save a little extra without feeling the pinch. Forget About ItOnce we've set up automatic transfers and started using savings apps, the best thing we can do is forget about it. Let the automation do its job. Over time, we'll see our savings grow without having to lift a finger. Automating our savings is the first step towards a thriving financial future. It makes saving effortless and helps us build a solid financial foundation. Find a Side HustleIdentify Your SkillsLet's start by figuring out what we're good at. Do you have a knack for writing, or maybe you're great at fixing things? Identifying our skills is the first step. Once we know what we're good at, we can look for side hustles that match those skills. For example, if you love animals, you could offer pet-sitting services. If you're handy, maybe you can do some home repairs for neighbors. Commit to Saving Extra IncomeOnce we start making extra money, it's important to commit to saving it. This means not spending it on things we don't need. Instead, we should put it into our savings account or use it to pay off debt. The goal is to use this extra income to improve our financial situation, not to create more expenses. Track Your ProgressFinally, we need to keep track of how much extra money we're making and how we're using it. This will help us see if our side hustle is worth the time and effort. We can use a simple spreadsheet or a budgeting app to track our progress. By keeping an eye on our earnings and savings, we'll stay motivated to keep going. Finding a side hustle can be a game-changer for our finances. It not only brings in extra income but also helps us develop new skills and meet new people. Cut Unnecessary ExpensesReview Monthly SubscriptionsLet's start by taking a close look at our monthly subscriptions. Do we really need all of them? Sometimes, we sign up for services and forget about them. Canceling unused subscriptions can save us a lot of money over time. Make a list of all your subscriptions and decide which ones you can live without. Cook at Home More OftenEating out can be fun, but it adds up quickly. Cooking at home is not only cheaper but also healthier. We can plan our meals for the week and buy groceries accordingly. This way, we avoid the temptation of ordering takeout. Plus, cooking together can be a fun activity for the whole family. Shop SmartWhen it comes to shopping, let's be smart about it. Look for sales, use coupons, and compare prices before making a purchase. We should also ask ourselves if we really need the item or if it's just an impulse buy. By being mindful of our spending, we can cut down on unnecessary expenses and save more money. Build an Emergency FundAn emergency fund is our safety net for those unexpected moments. We never know when an emergency will strike, but having some money set aside can make all the difference. Experts usually suggest saving three to six months' worth of expenses, but starting with any amount is a good move. Start SmallWe don't need to save a huge amount right away. Begin with a small goal, like $1,000. It might seem like a lot, but once we cut some expenses, we can save up faster than we think. Every little bit counts. Keep It SeparateIt's important to keep our emergency fund in a separate account. This way, we're not tempted to dip into it for non-emergencies. A high-yield savings account can be a good option because it earns more interest. Replenish When NeededIf we ever need to use our emergency fund, we should make it a priority to replenish it as soon as possible. This ensures we're always prepared for the next unexpected event. Building an emergency fund might seem tough, but it's one of the best steps we can take to secure our financial future. Live Below Your MeansLiving below your means might sound like common sense, but it's a game-changer. It’s not about depriving ourselves; it’s about making smart choices that help us save more and stress less. Here’s how we can do it without feeling deprived. Increase Your IncomeAsk for a RaiseSometimes, the simplest way to boost your income is to ask for a raise. If you've been working hard and adding value to your company, it's time to have that conversation with your boss. Don't be afraid to advocate for yourself. Prepare your case by listing your achievements and how they've benefited the company. Confidence is key! Consider FreelancingFreelancing can be a great way to make extra money. Whether you're good at writing, graphic design, or even coding, there's a market for your skills. Websites like Upwork and Fiverr make it easy to find clients. The best part? You can work on your own schedule. Just remember, the more you put in, the more you'll get out. Invest in Your EducationSometimes, you need to spend money to make money. Investing in your education can open doors to higher-paying jobs. Look for courses or certifications that can boost your skills and make you more marketable. It might seem like a big expense now, but it can pay off in the long run. Increasing your income isn't just about working harder; it's about working smarter. Find what works best for you and stick with it. Remember Your Financial GoalsVisualize Your FutureLet's take a moment to visualize our future. Close your eyes and imagine what life looks like when you're not living paycheck to paycheck. Picture paying off debts, watching your savings grow, and achieving financial freedom. This mental image can be a powerful motivator to keep us on track. Celebrate Small WinsEvery time we hit a milestone, no matter how small, we should celebrate. Did we save an extra $50 this month? That's awesome! These small victories add up and keep us motivated. It's important to recognize and reward our progress. Stay MotivatedStaying motivated can be tough, but it's crucial. Regularly checking our progress and setting new goals can help. Each time we cross a goal off our list, we should think about what our next one will be. This keeps us moving forward and makes living paycheck to paycheck a distant memory. It's easy to lose sight of your financial goals, but staying focused is key to success. Take a moment to revisit your plans and make sure you're on track. For more tips and resources, visit our website and explore our free financial guide. Let's work together to achieve your dreams!
