We hope your summer has gone well! As we look at school beginning and our schedules filling up with fall activities, we hope you are able to reflect on some wonderful family time and feel some rejuvenation. Your health and well-being are important to those around you as we continue to work together to share the mission of Uplift Mid-MO creating unity in the body of Christ to support local missions and outreach in Mexico, MO and the surrounding area by providing valuable resources to those in need and effectively leading the lost to Jesus Christ. Reviewing our mission is an important reminder as we sometimes feel like we are struggling through our day-to-day lives – Jesus Christ loves us so much that He died on the cross and forgave ALL of our sins - we are so blessed to be able to serve Him and this world around us! Welcome Sherry Reetz to the Uplift TeamUplift Mid-MO is excited to welcome Sherry Reetz as our new part-time Programs Specialist. Sherry will help Uplift expand its capabilities to handle client interactions and support our Director of Programs and Development, Libby Landrum. Sherry is someone who exudes the love of Christ and will be a fantastic caring connection for our clients. Our team of volunteers will continue to handle other non-program administrative tasks. Here's a Note From Sherry: My name is Sherry Reetz, and I have lived in Mexico since 2008. I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy biking, running, drawing/painting, and photography. I have been a Christian since I was 8. I went to church with friends or rode the church bus until I could drive myself. I love Jesus and the grace and hope that comes from Him and His word. I am now a member of Genesis Church in Mexico and play bass guitar on the worship team. I have been a music teacher for 27 years, the last 15 at North Callaway. I have taught a lot of things, including K-1 art and P.E. Currently I teach K-5 music at Williamsburg Elementary and I love it! I am excited to join Uplift and look forward to working in this ministry. Sherry can be reached via email at [email protected]. Save The Date for special eventsWe keep our Event Calendar updated on our website with the help of our partners! Churches can now send us information to include on the Calendar so that our church partners can more easily share information about events, etc. You can also contact Libby at the office at (573) 212-8376 or email [email protected]. What's Ahead for Uplift Mid-MOJust a reminder – To celebrate our 5th Anniversary, Uplift will be hosting a “Month of Giving” during the month of November. This digital event is in lieu of our annual 5K this year and our goal is to raise $20,000 to support our mission. If you would like to have Uplift visit your church to speak to your congregation, please email Kate at [email protected]. All church partners will receive a hand-delivered media kit in early October. This packet will include a number of things including a few short videos saved to a jump drive that are designed to help educate your congregations about Uplift – these can be shared each week in November (in church and/or on social), giving envelopes and flyers about our fundraiser and organization. This information can be shared with your congregation or with any other groups or businesses you think might have interest in supporting our mission. Our goal is to raise $20,000 for Uplift with this fundraiser. A huge shoutout to all the pastors and agency partners who have done interviews! We can’t thank you enough! Uplift Mid-MO Activity Report for the 2nd quarter of 2024:Clients referred – 47 Intakes – 11
Financial Assistance Offered - $2,994.55 for 13 various services including housing, utilities, fuel, counseling fee, phone, and other needs. Our contributions of assistance continue to be higher as the cost of needs has increased. And, as you can see, not every referral becomes an open case - there are many reasons for this, including lack of contact information, resource information only provided, and duplicate submissions, but often due to the evaluation process for each referral. Uplift strives to be a “gap ministry” (assisting when the criteria of other agencies can’t be met), we evaluate the ability of the assistance Uplift offers to assist in the sustainability of the individual’s independence, and we are faith-based and faith supported by our church partners. Many of our referred clients are connected with the proper community resources that fall outside of Uplift, so if you’re in doubt of whether or not to send someone our way, please send them! We always offer some value to every single referral. We Still Need Your Help Filling Board Vacancies and Volunteer Positions! We still have several spots available on our Board of Directors. We are interested in keeping a diverse group from multiple churches, so we are asking our church partners to nominate 1 – 3 individuals from their church who might be a good fit for us. Our board meets quarterly, and we would love to have someone serve on the board who has interest in volunteering as well. Overall, this is a low time commitment, but it can be as much as you are able to do. Please be sure to talk to nominees before sending their name in as a nomination. Email [email protected] with any nominations! Thank you!
